Many network marketers have the idea that by “splashing” their presentation to anyone and everyone, they will get more members and make more money. When you ask them if quality or quantity is more important, their answer will be quantity.
Personally, I do not completely agree. While nearly everyone could be considered a prospect, a smaller percentage of those people will qualify as recruit-able.
You cannot, should not sign up every single person you can “force” a yes from.
Case in point… Quality or Quantity
You are walking to the bus stop. The man is strumming a guitar and has a sign that says he is hungry and willing to play for your dollar.
The quality focused network marketer gives the man a $5 bill and asks him to play Layla, the Eric Clapton hit. Ah, what a good rendition the network marketer thinks. “Keep your chin up.. Great things will come,” the network marketer tells the hungry man. And he gets on the bus.
The quantity focused MLM representative tells the man he has no change to give, but that he knows a way he can make a lot of money quickly. “You can own your own business and never be hungry again. The starter kit is only $29 and as I look in your hat, I see you have $35, so we can get you running today. Before you know it, you will make a lot of money.”
He fills out the paperwork and takes the hungry man’s money.
What will happen? Will he actually be able to market his new MLM business?
You want to recruit people who can build a business. Not people who need a job! You want potential leaders and not habitual followers.
Here are techniques, strategies and tips to recruit leaders into your network marketing business.
Quality Or Quantity Technique: Wear It
Most network marketing companies offer their representatives various items like polo shirts, hats, bags, etc… that have a brand logo.
Where these help the recruiting process is instead of you approaching people, they approach you.
That is called attraction marketing and you are less likely to have people who are unable to spend the money to start. Also, it is a good chance the person has leadership capabilities if they are willing to approach you and ask about the brand you are wearing.
Quality Or Quantity Strategy: Ask For Referrals
You should get in the habit of asking for referrals from everyone. Most people will not share the name and contact of another unless they know that the business is a good fit for that person.
So essentially, the referrer is already somewhat pre-qualifying the prospect for you.
Quality Or Quantity Tip: Educate
It is another attraction marketing principle. You educate people in areas that are directly related to the products or services you offer via your MLM company.
When you share educative articles you have authored or someone else has, you are bound to have some of these people ask you about your business. You then give your elevator pitch and determine if they are someone who you should follow through with in the recruiting process.
The fact alone that they approached you shows they have some interest and are reaching out. This also shows potential leadership capabilities.
Quality Or Quantity Strategy: Do Not Beg Or Push
When you push or beg, you will probably get some people who sign up. The majority of those sign ups will quit.
When you are willing to just smile and walk away, prospects will immediately wonder and some may regret not saying yes.
Trust me, you will get higher quality recruits if you don’t push or beg.
Quality Or Quantity Tip: Find And Solve Problems
The recruiting process can be simplified into a simple equation:
- Ask the prospect questions to discover problems they have
- Find a solution to their problems
- If the solution can be found in the MLM business, present the opportunity and show them how it can solve it
Quality Or Quantity Technique: Dress Professionally
The fact is: leaders are attracted to other leaders.
If you dress for success, you will be more apt to recruit leaders and professionals.
Your appearance can play a huge part in your recruiting outcome.
Conclusion
No matter what, in network marketing, quality trumps quantity. If you have a quantity mindset, your attrition rates will probably be high.
