Network marketing has been the subject of a ton of negative publicity. Much of that negativity comes from people who joined a MLM company, did not put in the work and expected money would just “fall in their lap.” But some of us realize the truth and when the opportunity to join a company that has products or services that we have a passion for, we join. And then, we tell our friends and/or family about our new home based business, and we get that look. It is that look that tells you they have read those negative reviews.
So can you get their support? Even with the negative publicity?
I believe you can, but only if handled correctly..
Here are 4 tips on getting support from friends and family for your network marketing business.
Support From Friends And Family Tip #1: Support And Believe In Yourself
This comes from my friend and network marketing superstar Ray Higdon.
Ray tells us how your posture can make all the difference and that comes down to believing in yourself. Do not expect support from friends and family!
Just give them the chance and leave it at that.
“Hey Aunt Mary… I know how you feel about MLM and all that, but I know that I will succeed at this. I just want to give you the opportunity, but it is totally cool if you don’t want to. I can do it with or without you.”
It’s as simple as that. If Mary says no, just thank her and move on. Carry a strong and solid posture and don’t allow their answer to control you.
By carrying an “I WILL” posture, some will believe and will give you support.
Support From Friends And Family Tip #2: Recruit From The Cold Market Too
Some sponsors will tell you the first thing you should do is make a list of your friends and family and approach them first.
I do agree that you should make that list, but I think you should approach cold market prospect 2 to 1. What I mean is, approach people you do not know double the amount of your warm market.
So you told Aunt Mary… Now just approach the person in the bus stop, your server at the restaurant or someone else you don’t know. After you have approached 2 cold market prospects, approach 1 more from your warm market list.
When your friends and family see you recruiting strangers, they will gain more faith that you just may be able to do this network marketing thing.
Support From Friends And Family Tip #3: Lead With The Product Or Service
I like to use a traditional brick and mortar business example here. Let’s say that you opened a bakery. You would not approach friends and family to franchise and open a branch bakery, but you probably would approach them to come buy some donuts or a cake and try it out.
It works the same with a network marketing business… Don’t approach with the business opportunity. Approach with your products or services and ask them to try them out and tell you what they think.
If they give a good report, you could then lightly share the business opportunity.
